Finding the right solutions for complex real world problems requires multi-disciplinary
approaches. Biomedical Engineering which naturally mixes concepts of life sciences, engineering and medicine braces our understanding the touchstones of biological systems to create innovative solutions for today's health problems and open new frontiers for pioneering technological work.
Biomedical engineering has already become an outshining engineering discipline in the beginning of the new century. Wider cooperation between the fields of life sciences, engineering and medicine
in research as well as in education, would produce a wealth of information for building new bridges
at the frontiers of biomedical engineering.

The 23rd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society will be held in the enchanting city of Istanbul, Turkey, on October 25-28, 2001. The venue for the
conference will be the Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre located at the heart of the modern section of Istanbul. The conference hotel will be the Istanbul Hilton.

Istanbul, the only city in the world set on two continents, Europe and Asia, blends east and west, past and present, land and sea, continuity and change, tradition and technology, nature and thriving city life. Istanbul, with its rich historic heritage, magnificent palaces, mosques, churches and monuments together with the unparalleled beauty of the Bosphorous is a perfect meeting place, one that will impress treasured and lasting memories.
