Symposium #6: Telemedicine and Telehealth

Organizer and Moderator: Christian Roux
INSERM - Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne, Brest, France

Telemedicine and Telehealth can be defined as a means provided by advanced technologies of allowing distant medical resources to meet unfulfilled demands in healthcare services. Beyond the technical dimension, this growing field has to face various challenges like its integration to the medical practice and to the health care system, its economic implication and its social impact. This symposium will review the medical dimension and the technical dimension of this rapidly evolving field. It will present also a vision of cybercare, a new approach followed to face a mass casualty event coming for instance from a natural disaster, for which specific healthcare management procedures have to be followed and critical technologies have to be mobilized.
